Step By Step Guide To Rhinoplasty Surgery In Bangalore

Rhinoplasty or a nose reshaping procedure is done for functional or aesthetic improvement of the nose . It helps in balancing the proportion of the nose with the rest of face . Sometimes a chin enhancement is also added which complements the rhinoplasty results . Patients seek rhinoplasty for reducing the hump on nose , correct a droopy or bulky tip , reduce a nasal wide flare , or correct a flat bridge . Sometimes a septorhinoplasty can be done for correcting a deviated septum , collapsed nose , birth defect as in cleft lip and palate or following an injury.
This blog focuses on the step by step guide to rhinoplasty in Bangalore. It would help in understanding the different types of rhinoplasty , preoperative preparation and postoperative care.

Types of rhinoplasty

Broadly classified as open and closed rhinoplasty.

Open rhinoplasty is a procedure chosen for more detailed correction of nose which includes deviation , hump , broad tip and need or cartilage support of the nose .   This is the technique used in Structural rhinoplasty  where the basic structure and support of nose is addressed as the name suggests.

  • Step 1. A small incision is made in columella ( skin bridge between the two nostrils just above the upper lip) and skin is raised above the nasal cartilages .
  • Step 2. A septoplasty ( endoscopic or open ) is done to remove all the deviated septum inn the nose causinng the blockage. A concurrent Turbinoplasty ( the fleshy tissue inside your nostrils ) can also be reduced if it is hypertrophied or enlarged. The cartilage retrieved from septum is later used in building the structure o nose.
  • Step 3.  Hump on the nose is removed and an osteotomy of the nasal bones - This is an important step to correct or align the nasal bones . A wide base is narrowed or a deviated bones are  straightened .
  • Step 4. Now the nasal bridge is assessed and cartilage support is added as spreader grafts on the bride .
  • Step 5. The tip of the nose is next addressed . A droopy tip needs suuspension sutures , a broad tip needs removal of cartilage and definition of tip domes or flat tip needs cartilage placement as a shield graft or a bolster graft . A poorly projected tip may need an additional cartilage support as  columella grafts .
  • Step 6. Alar resection or Alar reduction is done to correct asymmetric ala , wide ala or the wide nostril base .
  • Step 7. once the nose sutures are placed , an external nasal splint is placed on the top of nose and taped well to secure the nose . A nasal pack as a sponge inside your nostrils can be placed to soak up the blood .

Closed rhinoplasty is a procedure in which incisions are in concealed locations inside your nostril and itys ideal for minor corrections of  nose , like a hump removal or a tip reduction . It is not suited  for someone with deviation of septum needing reconstruction o septum.

Your surgeon would choose the best approach for you based on the corrections needed.
